SPF, which is short for Sender Policy Framework, is an e-mail protection system, that is is intended to verify if an e-mail message is sent by an authorized server. Using SPF protection for a domain will stop the forging of emails created with the domain. In layman's terms: activating this function for a domain generates a special record in the Domain Name System (DNS) which contains the IP addresses of the servers that are permitted to send e-mails from mailboxes under the domain. The moment this record propagates worldwide, it exists on all of the DNS servers that direct the Internet traffic. Any time a new email message is sent, the first DNS server it uses checks if it originates from an approved server. If it does, it's sent to the destination address, but when it does not come from a server part of the SPF record for the particular domain, it's discarded. Thus nobody will be able to mask an email address to make it appear as if you're sending spam messages. This approach is also termed email spoofing.

SPF Protection in Shared Web Hosting

If you host your domains in a shared web hosting account with us and we handle the email addresses for them, you are able to enable SPF protection for any of them with a couple of clicks inside your Hepsia Control Panel. The service can be found in a section of its own where you can view which domains are currently secured. For those that aren't, you'll be able to enable the SPF protection option and manage a lot of things in the process - the hostnames of the mail servers that are permitted to send messages from your emails, the IPv4 and IPv6 addresses of the servers, as well as to create a rule that messages can be sent only when your domains include our MX records. The last mentioned option is the most secure one, and it can be used in the event that we take care of the e-mails for your domains and you are not using a different email supplier. The newly generated records will propagate within a day and nobody will be able to fake the FROM field in an email using your addresses.

SPF Protection in Semi-dedicated Hosting

The Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which is provided with all our semi-dedicated services, will provide you with an incredibly user-friendly interface to enable the SPF protection service for any domain that you host within your new account. Several clicks in the Emails section of Hepsia are enough for that then you'll only have to type in the hostname and the IP address of the mail server which will be permitted to send messages from your e-mail addresses. In case the email messages are handled on our end and not by a different supplier, you're able to increase the protection level even further and activate an option for the outgoing e-mails to be sent only if your domains include our MX records. This option will provide you with more control and it'll eliminate any chance of somebody faking your e-mails with the purpose of spamming or scamming people. It's not applicable if just your web site is hosted on our hi-tech cloud hosting platform, while your email addresses are managed by another service provider. If you aren't sure what features to select, our tech support staff will help you 24/7.
